This question comes from Leonard Sweet.
Romans 1:26 says, "For this reason God gave them up." What do you think is the greater danger: that God will punish us and be angry with us for our failings and rejections, or that God may leave us alone with our choices and just let things take their course? Why?

Either one is a bad situation, in my book. I don't want God to punish me, nor do I want Him to leave me to my own devices and decisions. I guess I would prefer His punishment, though. Chastisement from God shows me His love and that I am His child. To leave me to my own devices would be the ultimate rejection by God, meaning He no longer chooses me and I am no longer His child. That would be far worse, I imagine.
ReplyDeleteI defiantly concur with TampaGirl31. The end of God's chastisement leads to maturity and the end of my rebellion leads to Death. Check out Rom.2:1-16 God is no joke. I would rather get disciplined by a loving father than a hateful world.

So am I to assume that if God doesn't rain down lightning on me when I mess up I'm not his child?
ReplyDeleteI think when we are created, we are His children, made in His image. When God allows us to go through difficult situations, as believers, we are comforted by the thought that Jesus loves us and trouble won't last always. These thoughts help us cope. However, I think perception has a lot to do with correction and even salvation. If I don't think I did anything wrong, then am I being punished or am I being attacked? If I don't have a strong faith in God, then is it possible for Him to correct me? So basically, you're really only a child of God when you perceive that He is in fact your father. As Christians we acknowledge that all have the open invitation to accept God as their father, but not all choose to accept Him. True enough, we are indeed His children, but if I don't perceive that He is my Father, then to me He is a figment of your imagination.
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty interesting topic it has me scratching my head. Things that make you go hmmmmmm. Anyway I have a couple of questions.
ReplyDelete1. Is everyone God created His child?
2. Was there ever a time where we stopped being God's children(Between creation and the Knowledge of Him as our father)?
3.If so does he owe me child support for the absent years?(Sike kidding lol)
4. Is there a difference between being a creation of God and being a child of God? If so what?
5. Are we really made in God's image?
