Subject: Domestic Violence

Hey, Pastor. I have a blog question:

What does the bible say about domestic violence? In Malachi 2:16, it says that God hates divorce and a man who covers himself and/or his wife in violence. If a woman is being abused by her husband, does this passage mean she has the right to divorce him?

  1. I don't think God wants anyone to be married to an abusive, violent person. Here's what God says in Psalms 11:5-6 on violence. "The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot". There are many women today who are six feet under because they chose to say in a violent, abusive relationship. God not only gave us His word, he also gave us a little common sense to along with it. What good reason would God have for a woman to stay in an abusive relationship, especially if there are children involved where the husband beats the wife all of the time and the children see that? It's never appropriate for a man to lay his hands on a woman in a violent, abusive manner, ever.
